Undergraduate and graduate degree programs in approximately 280 fields (business, education, engineering, social sciences, natural sciences, and the arts) are offered by UH. The C.T. A very competitive scholarship program, the University of Houston overseas Merit Scholarship is intended to draw exceptional overseas candidates who want to study undergraduate or graduate degrees at the University of Houston in the United States. For up to two years of graduate education or up to four years of undergraduate study, the scholarship pays for accommodation and board, tuition, and other relevant costs.

Benefits

If they fulfill the eligibility requirements, all undergraduate and graduate students can apply for the International Merit Scholarship. For two semesters, the scholarship offers a reduction in the overall cost of attendance, ranging from $3000 to $10,000. Under F-1 and J-1 visas, international students will be charged the residence tuition rate. However, other costs like accommodation, food, transportation, personal expenses, books, supplies, or health insurance are not covered by the scholarship; it solely pays for tuition and fees. The scholarships and waivers are available to fall recipients for the fall, spring, and summer semesters, and the scholarship can only be utilized to study at UHV. For students living on campus, there is an additional $1,000 guaranteed scholarship included in the package.

Eligibility

In order to qualify for the scholarship, candidates need to fulfill the following requirements

  • Have to be accepted as a student at UHV
  • At the time of award, undergraduate students and graduate students must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits and 9 credits, respectively, at UHV.
  • In order to graduate, returning or current students must complete two semesters, and the scholarship cannot be used for the last semester.
  • Graduate students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, while returning or current undergraduate students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Opportunities for volunteer work require prior approval.
  • Recipients of the spring scholarship must reapply by the deadline, if applicable, for the fall merit scholarship.
  • Must be a student on a non-immigrant visa, such as an F-1 or J-1, or an international student
  • F-1 and J-1 students are required to attend the required International Student Orientation at Victoria or Katy and have the appropriate visa status on or before the state date of their immigration document.
  • Every student without an immigration status must be in excellent academic standing and have a track record of academic success.
